Central Park Glacial Rocks Jacket
INSPIRATION:
A few blocks from Joe Bananas on Madison Avenue, within the grounds of Central Park, huge shiny boulders appear as if out of nowhere, in high contrast to their surrounds. These Glacial Rocks, known as Erratics, take their name from the Latin, ‘errare’, to wander, as they were quite literally transported to their current location by the Laurentide Ice Sheet as it drifted there and eventually melted away in the middle of Manhattan about 18,000 years ago.
Like the Erratics in Central Park, this Joe Bananas weave shines and sparkles, with the use of metallic yarns over cool black and silver tones. The weave’s slightly heavier weight makes it the perfect autumn or winter evening jacket.
DRESS IT UP OR DOWN:
Trousers with a black or white shirt will make a formal outfit of this piece, so to make it more relaxed, pair it with a colourful tee over black or grey denim or chinos.
CURIOUS FACT:
The Erratics get their shine from a process which Geologists call glacial polish, whereby other sediments within the glacier buff the rocks’ surface in the process of deglaciation.
